Netflix premiere: November 11th 2013 - Frances Ha (Baumbach)

Play movie in netflix!

When Noah Baumbach in 2005 wrote and directed The Squid and the Whale, he had a lot of people go: "Even if he never makes another movie...". Many will remember the hilarious scene when Walt Berkman (Jesse Eisenstein, of Social Network fame) in front of a packed auditorium tries to pass of Pink Floyd's legendary Hey You as "a song I wrote".

Well, Baumbach did make more movies, and after the largely overlooked Margot at the Wedding and Greenberg, Francis Ha has him back in the good graces of the critics and indie-movie goers again word-of-mouthing his efforts to a solid blip on the radar.

Critical acclaim for Greta Gerwig and Frances Ha

Frances is a charming, artistic spirit living in Brooklyn, NY. An apprentice at a dancing company, but perhaps not really seeing herself as (at least not uniquely) a dancer. She goes for gold in every situation and wants to live richly, experience life in full and express herself, although the gravitational forces of adult responsibility are a worthy adversary to be sure. A balancing act of maintaining what you like about yourself and avoiding outright, reckless self-indulgence is what Baumbach invites his viewers along to. In one of the world's truly wonderous cities, in an exciting, but also pressuring time and reality.

Greta Gerwig has received much praise for her portrayal of Frances Haliday.
